Overview
Over the past 40 years, Brazil’s agricultural production has grown rapidly, fueled by the expansion of cultivated land, rising yields, and the conversion of forestland to agricultural use. By contrast, U.S. agricultural production has increased steadily even as cultivated acreage has declined, while grassland and forestland acreage has expanded. This report examines land-use changes, productivity gains, and conservation policies in the United States and Brazil.
