This data product provides estimates of agricultural outputs, inputs, and total factor productivity (TFP) indices for the aggregate farm sector for the period 1948 to 2023 (table 1)—along with price and quantity indices for 10 outputs and 12 inputs (table 1a). Estimates of TFP, total outputs, and inputs serve as a benchmark for farm sector performance. These estimates provide insights into farm structural adjustments, resource allocation decisions, and technological progress.
This data product also contains the revised and extended estimates of the relative levels of TFP, and price and quantity indices for outputs and inputs for the 48 contiguous States for the years 1960–2015 (table 2). State estimates are not made for Alaska and Hawaii, as some major data are not available for the entire period. Note that former State tables 3–23 were retired with the November 2024 release.
The next update to the U.S. aggregate accounts—planned for the end of 2027—is expected to contain estimates of agricultural outputs, inputs, and total factor productivity indices for the aggregate farm sector (national) through 2025. An update schedule for the State-level accounts has not been established.
