Overview

Chinese officials have increased encouragement to agricultural companies to invest abroad. This report examines motivations for the investments, which can be seen as state-sponsored “land grabs” and as benign transactions, and the changing strategy of investors, government support, geographic patterns, and factors influencing the success of investments.
