What's New at ERS?
- Rural America at a Glance: 2024 Edition – Want to know how the population in rural areas is changing? How about changes in workforce diversity and the economic makeup of rural areas? This annual report highlights the most recent indicators of social and economic conditions in rural areas, focusing on the age structure of the rural population and the implications of age-related demographic change including rural migration, labor force participation, poverty, childcare, eldercare, and broadband.
- The 2024 edition is scheduled to post Tuesday, November 12th at 1 p.m. ET.

- 2022 Census of Agriculture Charts of Note Series – Did you know that the number of U.S. farms has fallen below 2 million for the first time since before the Civil War? A new ERS Charts of Note series gives this type of insight and more from the 2022 Census of Agriculture. Below are a few examples:
- Number of U.S. farms falls below 2 million
- Number of U.S. farms decreased 10 percent from 2012 to 2022
- Interest expense data illustrate distribution of U.S. farm debt
- Most U.S. counties with high concentration of specialty crop farms are located along coasts
- Cover crop use continues to be most common in eastern United States
