The Livestock and Meat Domestic Data product includes monthly, quarterly and semi-annual updates to several files covering a variety of statistics for red meat, poultry and egg production. The All Meat Statistics and All Supply and Disappearance files are updated monthly and contain summary and compilation statistics on U.S. red meat, poultry, and egg production. The Livestock Prices and Wholesale Prices files are also updated monthly. The files compile historical and recent monthly price data from USDA, Agricultural Marketing Service, as well as a current-month estimate. The High Plains Cattle Feeding Simulator is updated monthly and contains a spreadsheet-based model that can be used to assess the profitability for feedlots at a particular price level. The Heifers Entering the Herd file, updated semi-annually, contains tables with summary statistics and estimates of the U.S. cattle herd and number of heifers entering the cow herd. The Feeder Cattle Supplies Outside Feedlots file is updated quarterly and provides estimates of the number of cattle available outside U.S. feedlots at the beginning of each quarter.
The data are available in formatted Excel tables, as well as a zip folder containing all data in corresponding machine-readable CSV files. The data and tables draw from and support the data used in the World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates report, as well as the Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook report. Note: In September 2026, the Recent and Historical All Meat Statistics files were combined into a single file containing all data; similarly, the Recent and Historical All Supply and Disappearance files were combined into a single file. In addition, the formatting of the files was updated slightly to meet ERS Data Product Quality Standards.
