Cotton, Wool, and Textile Data

This data product contains data on U.S. cotton and wool supply, demand, and prices, as well as U.S. cotton and textile trade data, maintained by the Economic Research Service to support related commodity market analysis and research. The data are available in three separate data sets:

  • Cotton and Wool Yearbook: Provides cotton and wool production, supply, use, trade, and price statistics. Includes domestic and world price series and indexes; State cotton acreage, yield, and production data; and conversions of U.S. textile imports and exports. Updated annually. The Cotton and Wool Yearbook Archive provides links to historical editions.
  • Raw-Fiber Equivalents of U.S. Textile Trade Data: ERS estimates of the raw-fiber equivalent volume of U.S. textile trade. The data are used to track and estimate U.S. consumer demand for textiles, monitor trends in fiber share, and provide insight into the level of world mill use of cotton. This dataset provides historical annual data, while monthly data are published in the Cotton and Wool Outlook. Updated annually.
  • Bilateral Fiber and Textile Trade: This database provides information about source-destination trade flows among 42 exporting and importing country/regions on 43 fiber, textile, and clothing product aggregates on an annual basis from 1992 through 2002. This dataset supported analysis of the 2005 phaseout of textile import quotas.
