Households are the biggest energy users in food system

In 2002, ERS research indicates U.S. households used 28 percent of the energy consumed by the food system on food-related tasks. Although households used the most food-related energy, food processing had the largest growth in energy use between 1997 and 2002. This chart is from Energy Use in the U.S. Food System, ERR-94.
