USDA, Economic Research Service (ERS) estimated average retail prices paid by U.S. consumers in 2023 for 62 fresh and processed fruits measured in servings. A serving, as defined in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025–2030, is the edible portion that will generally fit in a 1-cup measuring cup. For raisins and other dried fruits, it is the amount that will fit in a ½-cup measuring cup. Fresh watermelon at 26 cents per serving and bananas at 31 cents were the lowest priced fruits, while fresh blackberries, fresh raspberries, and canned cherries were the priciest in the sample. Federal dietary guidance for fruit consumption depends on age, sex, height, weight, and level of activity. For a 2,000-calorie reference diet, 2 servings of fruits per day are recommended. The data in this chart are from ERS's Fruit and Vegetable Prices data product, updated December 9, 2025.
