Introduction
Keithly Jones is the associate director, Market and Trade Economics Division (MTED).
Background
Keithly rejoined USDA, Economic Research Service (ERS) as associate director in 2025. Prior to this, Keithly served at USDA, Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) as the team lead of the Trade Modeling Unit in the Trade and Economic Analysis Division of the Global Market Analysis program area. While at FAS, Keithly directed research on the policy implications of a range of trade developments on agricultural commodities. Prior to FAS, Keithly was at ERS where he served in several capacities: agricultural economist; senior research agricultural economist; cross commodity analyst; and coordinator of the livestock, meat, poultry, and dairy outlook program. He also led the agency’s research in examining domestic, import, and export demand for meat, poultry, fish, and dairy product markets. While at ERS, Keithly earned the Secretary of Agriculture Honor Award for Excellence twice in consecutive years (2011 and 2012) for his contributions toward professional development and outreach. Keithly has completed the Key Executive Leadership Certificate (senior executive) program at American University. He also detailed for a year as senior advisor for Agricultural Economics and Rural Community in USDA’s Office of the Chief Scientist, and Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics Mission Area where he supported scientific prioritization and coordination across the entire USDA and facilitated cross departmental scientific collaboration.
Education
Keithly earned a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University, University Park and M.S. and B.S. degrees from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, Florida. He also completed the Key Executive Leadership Certificate Program at American University, Washington, DC.
