Charles Grigsby-Calage

Introduction

Charles (Chuck) is an economist in the Food Markets Branch of the Food Economics Division at USDA’s Economic Research Service. His research applies causal inference techniques, machine learning tools, and geo-spatial analysis to examine changes in U.S. food retail market structure, competition in the food retail landscape, and emerging trends in food systems at local, regional, and national levels. Through this work, he aims to provide data-driven insights to policymakers and inform decision-making.

Background

Chuck previously worked as an extension marketing specialist at the University of Tennessee’s Center for Profitable Agriculture. He also served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, focusing on community economic development.
