Briefly

Cathy Cullinane Thomas is an agricultural economist in the Diet, Safety, and Health Economics Branch in the Food Economics Division (FED). She is a member of the ERS household and retail scanner data team. Cathy’s research is focused on increasing data quality and usability, empowering data users, and building community.

Background

Prior to joining ERS in 2022, Cathy worked as an economist with the U.S. Geological Survey, researching how public lands, natural resource use, and federal programs and investments impact regional economies and livelihoods. Cathy has expertise in regional economics, simulation modeling, survey development, and data modeling and visualization.

Education

Cathy earned an M.S. degree in agricultural and resource economics and a B.S. degree in mathematics from Colorado State University.
