Greenhouse and Nursery Production Concentrated in Warmer States

The major greenhouse and nurseryproducts are shrubs, flowers, sod,Christmas trees, and other agriculturalproducts associated with the landscapeindustry. The principal determinants ofwhere greenhouse and nursery productsare grown are climate and local demand. In warmer climates, nursery productscan be grown outside of greenhouses, reducing production costs. Strong localdemand is important because the bulkinessand perishability of nursery productsmake them expensive to transportlong distances. Hence, production tendsto be concentrated across the southerntier of States and those with rapid populationand suburban growth.
