This chart shows the costs, in cents per dollar of domestically produced food, for primary factors (salary and benefits, property income, output taxes, and imported inputs) by outlet type (food at home, all food, and food away from home). Salary and benefits account for the largest cost for all outlets, with food services being the largest source of salary and benefits cost for all food and food away from home. The trade margins sector (food wholesale, food retail, and transportation and storage) has the highest salary and benefits cost for food at home.
