Annual food spending and contributions to its change

This chart uses the Food Dollar to show how annual changes in farm value, marketing value, and imported food make up the differences in annual food spending from 2020 to 2024. U.S. consumers spent $2,581.9 billion on food in 2024, up $99.1 billion from $2,482.8 billion in 2023. In 2024, marketing value increased by $61.0 billion and farm value increased by $2.7 billion, meaning that domestic food production increased by $63.7 billion from 2023. Imported food dollars increased by $35.5 billion.
