Deputy Dir for Data and Web Communication
Mark is the Deputy Director for Data and Web Communication for ERS’s Food Economics Division. The Division’s research program focuses on economics of consumer food choices, food policy, and food market and price dynamics. The program covers a wide array of topical issues on the welfare of American consumers, particularly the low-income households. Mark is currently working on projects related to improving the data infrastructure for food and nutrition policy research, and on projects enhancing users experience and satisfaction with accessing the Division’s research findings on ERS’s website.
Prior to becoming the Deputy Director for Data in 2006, Mark led ERS’s research program on food market structure and prices. Before that, Mark led ERS’s research program on macroeconomics of food and agricultural economy for three years. From 1992 to 1993, Mark was in charge of ERS’ research program on land values for two years (1992-93).
Mark received his Ph.D. from Iowa State’s economics department, and completed his M.S. in economics at Southern Illinois University.
Mark is a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association and the American Economics Association.
