Food Stamps and Obesity: What We Know and What It Means

Overview

• ERS conducts research on the outcomes of the Nation's domestic food assistance and nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and child nutrition programs.
• ERS measures how well food assistance programs are meeting their goals of providing access to nutritious diets, reducing food insecurity, and supplying indirect economic support to needy families.
• The types of outcomes examined can be divided into four broad categories:
