The Food Assistance Landscape: FY 2008 Annual Report—This annual periodical provides a brief overview of USDA’s domestic food assistance programs. Each issue contains recent program statistics, such as expenditure, participation, and benefit levels, as well as information on related economic and social indicators, such as employment rates, income growth, and food price inflation. It also discusses recent ERS research and food assistance and nutrition topics. (April 2009)
The WIC Program: Background, Trends, and Economic Issues, 2009 Edition—The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is USDA’s third-largest food and nutrition assistance program, accounting for 10 percent of total Federal spending on food and nutrition assistance. Administered by USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), WIC provides nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition education, and referrals to health care and other social services. Almost half of all infants and about a quarter of all children ages 1-4 in the United States participate in the program. This report describes how the program works, its history, program trends, current issues, and the characteristics of the population it serves. (April 2009)

4, Executive Summary of the Literature Review—This
report summarizes published research on the impact of
USDA's domestic food and nutrition assistance programs
on participants' nutrition and health outcomes. The outcome
measures reviewed include food expenditures, household
nutrient availability, dietary intake, food security,
birth outcomes, breastfeeding behaviors, use and cost
of health care services, and selected outcomes, such as
academic achievement and school performance (children)
and social isolation (elderly). (December 2004)
