Briefly
Alexander "Alex" Marre is a Research Agricultural Economist for the Farm and Rural Household Well-Being Branch in the Resource and Rural Economics Division. His primary areas of research and outreach include: rural human capital, rural labor markets, and migration along the rural-to-urban continuum. Background
Alex joined ERS in 2009. From 2004 to 2009 he worked in a variety of roles at Oregon State University, including Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Instructor. Research activities included: an analysis of the relationship between education, rural-to-urban migration, and economic outcomes for rural, working-age people; an evaluation of the effects of workforce training and other labor market support services provided in the state of Oregon; a review of current research on the effects of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 for rural residents; and a synthesis of the rural poverty literature in the American Journal of Agricultural Economics since its inception. Alex received his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Oregon State University in 2009, M.A. in Economics from Fordham University in 2004, and B.A.E. in Economics with a minor in Mathematics from the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University in 2003. Alex is a member of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA), the AAEA Community Economics Network, and the Western Agricultural Economics Association since 2005. He is a member of the Southern Regional Science Association since 2007. Publications
